Acclaimed musicians Ernie Hendrickson and John Kattke will perform together for the first time as a duo at Water Street Studios on August 28. Ernie Hendrickson’s 2007 solo record, Down the Road, was deemed "Groundbreaking" by Illinois Entertainer and established him as an singer-songwriter of rare talent. His subsequent records Walking with Angels, One For the Dreamers, and Roll On found him working with industry luminaries including producers Bo Ramsey (Lucinda Williams), Chad Cromwell (Neil Young, Mark Knopfler) and Brian Deck (Counting Crows). Inspired by American roots music and the likes of Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Jerry Garcia, he has played stages from the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville to the Living Room in New York City and all points in between. You can hear his original songs in regular rotation at over 100 radio stations across the country.
John Kattke (a.k.a. Brother John) is one of the most talented and versatile musicians on the Chicago music scene. Performing double duty on both guitar and keyboards, he’s been a resident musician at Buddy Guy’s Legends for 30 years. He has played with Eric Clapton, Steve Miller, the Black Crowes, and toured/recorded with many blues legends including Junior Wells, Koko Taylor, Otis Rush, and of course, Buddy Guy.
Excerpt from Brother John Kattke: "I spent most of the 90s touring/recording with blues artists Junior Wells, Koko Taylor, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy. Buddy also kept me working at his club with my band backing touring artists as they came through Chicago: Bo Diddley, Robert Ward, “Sugar pie” Desanto, Henry Butler, Earl King, Matt “Guitar” Murphy."
"Ernie and I met working with a jobbing band. I liked him immediately on a personal level, and his vocal/guitar chops are obvious. But when he hired me to play keyboards recording his “Roll On“ CD, I really appreciated the opportunity to work with him as a true artist. Some of his lyrics speak to me in a socially conscious sense. We were able to do a few shows promoting the record before Covid shut us down. This will be the first opportunity we’ve had to work together since lockdown ended, and as a duo. Looking forward to it!"
